Fair point and with retrospect it may have something to do with the fact I
have a Wireless Keyboard and Mouse but I have encountered the same problem
whether the port is connected to a Windows or Linux machine.

Although I've never looked into how these things actually work.  I could
understand it if a software install was required since that, in all
likelihood, would be a Winders only option.
