Automatic proxy discovery is complex and open to abuse. GPO's won't help sensible operating systems ;) > I also can across those install guides and they are both out of > date. I have squid 2.7.stable-4.1 and dansguardian 2.9.9.7-2 . I think some of the details of Squid config file changed at either 2.6, or 2.7, I know as it changed for a Debian upgrade, but that was for reverse proxies. However I don't think the options for being a straight forward proxy have changed, so the Squid HOWTO looks good to me. Certainly I didn't have to touch ours on upgrades from Sarge to Lenny in any substantive way. What are you struggling with? I'd expect the default config for Squid 2.7 to work subject to telling it your network ranges.
