Have you tried resetting the admin password using 'sudo passwd root' with your normal login password?

I've downloaded the Ubuntu NBR onto my Acer Aspire One. I don't recall
it asking me to set an admin password but now it is asking me for one.

Is there a default password? If not, is there an easy way to reset the
password, because none of my usual suspects seem to work.
