You might find this interesting... http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/intel-atom-efficiency,review-31435.html From what I have read on the net, the Atom is supposed to offer around the same sort of performance as a P4 at the same clock speed but at a much lower power usage. Can't say how accurate that is though as I haven't got an Atom. But saying that for web browsing, e-mail and most stuff I'm sure a dual core 1.6GHz machine would probably do the job. I find that the majority of the time I run my laptop at around 800Mhz (it's a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo) and it works perfectly fine (yes, even in Vista!).
