Ok, just checking I have this all correct now, To connect Asterisk to POTS I'll need a card with an FXO module. If the only phones I'm connecting are something like the Grandstream Budgetones and not analogue phones, I won't need a FXS module ?
That's right! With regards to a "budget" level phone, get the BT200 if you can, rather than the 100 or 102.
The 101 has one ethernet port, the 102 has 2 ports, but they're a 10MB *HUB* not a switch. The BT200 has a 2-port 10/100 switch built-in.
The 201 is slightly cheaper but only has one Ethernet port. With 2 ports you can save a bit on Ethernet wiring - unplug from the back of your PC, plug into the phone, then run a patch lead from the phone to PC. It's not always ideal, but for most SOHO applications, it's fine.
Also, if you can stretch a few £'s more, get the GXP280. It's got an alphanumeric display, so you can put up names for caller ID and so on. (The BT range is numeric only)
You'll find a lot of people are very anti-grandstream though - although they're not perfect, I do like them, and I've yet to find any phone in the price-range that has all the features that Grandstream has.

These cards can take 4 modules - and there are 2 types of modules. FXO and FXS - one connects to a BT wall socket, the other connects to a standard analogue phone - which might be an alternative to using an ATA to connect up exiting home phones - eg. DECT phones, etc. I have a refurbished BT 746 connected to one at home.. (a rotary dial phone in red.
