Hi I have a wifi extender which broadcasts the wifi signal accross the yard to a holiday cottage. The signal is picked up via a devolo plug. It's got an essid of cottagenet, while the signal from the d-link router is called frognet. Both are wpa encrypted and use the same key. The rather nice laptop I leave in the cottage has no problem linking to cottagenet. It uses the ralink r73 driver and is mandriva 2009 gnome. Likewise my assus eeepc has no problem. I want to switch the laptop for an old HP Omnibook, (60MB ram). With puppy linux this actually runs pretty fast, well within the range of acceptable. I bought a d-link usb wifi adapter, puppy detects it and it works, also r73. Well it does with frognet, it will not work with cottagenet. It just keeps scanning until it runs out of time and does not pick up an access point. Likewise I tried to boost the signal to my mothers PC by using a solwise wifi extender, you plug it into the mains and it picks up the signal like a devolo plug would and then broadcasts it. The eeepc when offered the choice of frognet or the new one will happily go for either. The PC will not attatch to the new one (yardnet) and infact will not attatch to either when it (the plug) is switched on. (the omnibook has only one point to attach to as it's out of range of anything else). Any ideas?
