Hi folks, Not sure if any of you have heard about a new pilot programme called 'Home Access' which is being released next year in Oldham and Suffolk? Basically the idea is that the government will provide subsidised computers and broadband connections to low income families which can be supplied by approved suppliers. I've been reading up on how to become a supplier for this Home Access initiative and came across this under the software requirement... Office Productivity applications provide text, spreadsheet and presentation slide viewing and editing. Text document applications shall provide the functionality to create, edit, save and print documents. Text document applications shall be able to save documents in the following formats: .txt, .rtf, .doc & .odt Spreadsheet applications shall provide the functionality to create, edit, save and print spreadsheet files in the following file formats: .csv, .xls & .odp Presentation applications shall provide the functionality to create, edit, save and print presentation files in the following file formats: .odp & .ppt The office productivity suite shall be available off-line. Hmmmm.... what is interesting is the fact that by default MS Office doesn't support .odt, .ods and .odp format files. Not at least until Office 2007 SP1 is released. As far as I'm aware the only way of getting support for these files at the moment is with that Sun plugin :-) Rob -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/list-faq.html
