[LUG] grub installation.
Hi. apologies for the html format but I'm using firefox from the ubuntu live install disk.
For some time I have been using an entire second hard drive to put linux on so nomally just use hd1 to install grub as the root of disk b.
However I had had to repartition my new drive and on the partition dcreen I have /dev/sda1 ntfs, /dev/sda5 ntfs and /dev/sda3 as ext3. I want to put grub onto the /dev/sda3 partition. Other linus os's allow me to choose the root of the boot partition and then automagically fill out the grub details.
When I get to the grub loader screen I am given an option to put grub on hd0 (boot of master disk) or hd1 (boot of slave)
I don't want to overwrite the exisiting boot loader on my disk as I use that to load a variety of operating systems using xosl.
What should I put in to make sure that /dev/sda3 is used ? Would it be (hd0,2) 0,0 being the mbl, 0,1 being my second partition - /dev/sda5 and then 0,2 equating to the 3rd partition of disk 0.
Does that make sense ? I'm unwilling to commit writing grub to disk unless I am sure it's going to the right place.
Thanks.
Ray
