Yeah, I'm in the process of writing a little script that asks me for which machine I'm at and will symlink the appropriate xorg.conf.roomname to xorg.conf before allowing gdm to start. I intend on making it autodetect this, but I'm unsure which way to go... I had thought of just doing it by harddrive UUID since that's unlikely to be the same across different machines. I would run without a conf file, but this Linux (Ubuntu 7.10) seems to drop back to VESA 640x480... which is painful enough on a monitor and, as I'm sure you can imagine, is downright silly when connected to a projector.
