Hi everyone, firstly I am trying to install a p2p program that I have downloaded (MlDonkey). During the process I'm told to quit another program that is runnung (dkpg) but I have done a 'ps' and apparently there is no other program running, not even in the background and secondly while looking at the install readme I am struck that I don't understand them...at all. I have been using Linux in one form or another for some years now but have never bit the bullet and compiled a program. If it installs automatically, like Windows, I have no problem but other wise when it comews to adding libs etc I just get completely lost. THe man or help files are of no use to me, If you like when I try to use them I tend to do what someone might do if they only knew how to spell phaneticaly (I have serious problems with spelling aswell, as you might have noticed). I am at the stage now where I'm thinking is Linux just too complicated for me ? I know it's becomming more user friendly but that's kind'a not what interests me about the system. I like the idea that you might have to be a bit more involved/savvy to use it. However am I really cut out to get the most out of it ? I am really beginning to have my doubts. When I want to install a program I expect to do apt get into a terminal and for this to work. It doesn't. I/you/one needs to know more than this to locate, download and install a program. I know that when you know something it's easy and I am continually frustrated with people who cannot make intuative point and click things work but the command line is a frightening place for me and seems to make no sense. Is it time for me to give it up ? This is what I am SERIOUSIY asking myself. I can see that there should be a learning curve but where it steepens it becomes a wall and I can't climb it. I have bought myself a book on the BASH shell in an attempt to try to enlighten myself a bit but it never seems to apply directly to what I'm doing in an easily understandable way, this, I think, is the crux of the problem. This stuff just isn't simple. So why is my system telling me that I can't install this program ? and if I can't fix it is it time to get myself a copy of XP /.......
