Despite many advances in attitudes in recent years and (officially at least) a more open attitude toward the disabled, there is still a pervasive attitude assuming that because your legs don't work (for instance), nor does your brain. On one occasion I went into PC World for a modem and found myself being introduced to their *ahem* 'modem specialist', who proceeded to spout a load of rubbish. I mentioned that (at the time) I was a Senior Technician for an ISP and had been for 4 years. The guy who introduced him wandered off quietly, and he started to pay attention to what I was actually saying. Broadly related is that the same attitude pervades the motor sales industry. Go to a garage in a wheelchair (or a skirt probably) and they'll try it on. I wouldn't like to say how they would behave if you had both.
