She says she can use Linux (and she can do the usual basic tasks, opening Firefox, checking her mail, writing documents) but she prefers Windows. I blankly refused to buy Vista (or any machine with Vista installed), so her new PC will no doubt run XP (I'd rather buy a copy of XP than Vista and I can't afford Vista Business). I'm hoping that eventually she'll get fed up with the endless crashes and general Windows crap. She spends at least once scanning the PC for Viruses and Spyware which is about an hour job whilst I happily get on with things on my Linux box (with a smug grin on my face). > More sweeping generalisations... It's the same with cars for females. Ahh, my other half must be different to the masses. When I was getting her a car she was stubborn and wouldn't have anything other than a Turbo Diesel Peugeot 306! > I am trying to think of a similar situation for males. > Maybe sewing machines? I actually did a year of textiles at school, I was the only male in the class of girls. I can't remember a thing about sewing machines though, apart from something is called a Bobbin (or am I thinking of that game Loom?) <snip> > I think if a new PC was brought and it had Linux on it and it would do > all the things that the windows PC did, on the whole they wouldn't > care. I'd say that about some people who use computers, they just want something that works.
