I don't know the current position but Linux hasn't always ben so good t dealing with NTFS. Having said that it should mount it, even if it mounts it as RO (read only) instead of RW (read/write). What is the content of /etc/fstab? Does that show the partition/disc you're looking for? You're right to assume they should normally mount automatically if internal.
