Hi Ruairi, I think your two problems in doing that would be 1) Mac is far far closer to linux than windows, it's based on BSD after all, so it's still a UNIX, 2) There isn't much of a microsoft user community, you're more likely to have people interested in socialising, etc when you have a community that is interested in technlogy outside of 9-5 and IME that is almost non-existent for most microsoft users - London it could work - as a social would mean only an extra tube stop and pint on the way home, but I don't see many windows users driving 100 miles to socialise or play with stuff (which would in turn would usually have to be paid for and licensed) or providing much help on mailing lists.
