You can probably solve this by renaming your .mozilla directory to .mozilla_old, which makes FF think you have never used the program before, so it will create a new directory. If this works, you can copy files from the old-but-renamed .mozilla-dir to the new one, to restore settings, bookmarks, plugins etc. Or, with a little help from Google, you might be able to find which files FF stores its sessions and just move/rename those.
