The staff at the youth center are some of the most open minded people I've worked with - and seeing them work with such a wide variety of kids from different backgrounds is pretty inspiring! They certainly aren't going to be too knee-jerk reactionary about taking action - the current systems have had no blocking on them for over 2 years, it's only that some of the kids have been breaking the rules (regarding adult sites and possibly cyber bullying) and also a lot of the kids just turn up and loaf on myspace for the duration (from what I've seen). By all means the team there act on the best interests of the kids and their families, and I trust in their decision to block social networking and adult sites. Of course, the social-networking block could always be lifted at a later point, it's up to them - and having flexibility over the block is probably a good way of disciplining those who consistantly break the rules. It could also be that some of the kids may actually need such restrictions if they have special needs and may not have developed sufficiently good judgement for safe surfing online and as such having any vulnerabilities secured is a good thing. As far as knowing any more, I'm just the piano tuner!
