With the ISP I worked with we could take verbal instructions *if* the caller was the account holder *and* passed the normal security checks. However if there was any doubt they *had* to write in - most of them didn't like it as they wanted to use the account *now*, but that's tough - either they wanted us to maintain security of their accounts or they wanted anyone to access them. We had situations such as 'the person who set up our account has been sacked and we don't know the password [and/or he changed the password before he left].' On several occasions the sacked person was still able to get the company's email and they *weren't*. Great idea since we were a residential ISP anyway and they weren't *supposed* to be using us for business - as we said to the ones who complained 'this is *WHY* we don't support businesses!'. Funnily enough they didn't tend to know the Mother's Maiden Name of the guy they just sacked. Or, we had divorces where hubby (or wife) has gone off and the remaining spouse doesn't know the password, and in some cases their mother-in-law's maiden name either. Anyway, back to the point :) I'm sure from what Robin described that what Demon are doing is on very shaky legal ground.
