Hello All, I'm having problems with sound on my laptop in Kubuntu. It worked when it arrived with windoze installed, so I think the hardware must be ok. I've downloaded and installed the latest alsa-{driver,lib,utils}-1.0.13 with no errors. Run alsaconf: it sees the card correctly and says it is configured. Run alsamixer and checked for mute etc. Playing a cd produces a pretty picture of exploding thingys in space (or something) but no sound. j1@j1-laptop:~$ sudo cat /proc/version Linux version 2.6.17-10-generic (root@terranova) (gcc version 4.1.2 20060928 (prerelease) (Ubuntu 4.1.1-13ubuntu5)) #2 SMP Tue Dec 5 22:28:26 UTC 2006 (Ubuntu 2.6.17-10.34-generic) j1@j1-laptop:~$ sudo lspci | grep Audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) j1@j1-laptop:~$ sudo lsmod | grep snd snd_seq_oss 38144 0 snd_seq_midi_event 8960 1 snd_seq_oss snd_seq 59632 4 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event snd_seq_device 9868 2 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq snd_hda_intel 21528 1 snd_hda_codec 172544 1 snd_hda_intel snd_pcm_oss 47232 0 snd_mixer_oss 19584 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 84996 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss snd_timer 24964 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm snd 60548 11 snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer soundcore 11232 1 snd snd_page_alloc 11656 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm Any ideas please?
