Hi folks, I noticed an article on The Inquirer about a French telecoms company who is offering its customers a Linux based machine with it's broadband service. Details here: http://quoi9.net/english/2006/09/25/free-computer-with-every-broadband-subscription/ and http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=34635 It seems an interesting thing to do, provide a Linux based PC which has 512MB flash memory built in and 512MB memory. Sounds like an ideal system for internet newbies. Running Linux will cut out the potential problems of viruses, the flash memory would in theory allow automatic upgrades (kinda like Sky box upgrades) and would probably do the job for those folks who just want to browse the internet and send e-mails. Of course the alternative would be an older PC (say a P3/Athlon) running some distro but I dare say it wouldn't look like a cool toaster though :-) Rob -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG http://mailman.dclug.org.uk/listinfo/list FAQ: http://www.dcglug.org.uk/linux_adm/list-faq.html
