When you have a problem can you access the routers web configuration page still? Does the router have any diagnostic, eg adsl status, dns lookup or ping test that it can do from the web configuration. This will test if the router can still see the internet or not. If the router can see the internet then you need to look at your main box configuration and suspect a dns or routing problem, possibly set by dhcp. Also prehapse a router firmware upgrade would help.
