Are you sending via the Exim queue. Yesterday I had a whole bunch of emails in the queue which I deleted with "exiqgrep -zi | xargs exim - Mrm" I have run ./exim restart a couple of times: does not seem to change the problem, but a reboot did. The problem started just after I installed the latest security updates from Debian etch: but I did not think they had a exim update. Am googling for smtp timeout problems. Firewall is not a problem because I can send emails without attachments. Will check this In sending from Debian Etch, standard exim light Sending to isp smtp server.
