Identical to my set-up. Desktop connected to a LAN port, mine and Dad's laptops both with Wifi cards.I have finally decided to go for it. Next Wednesday 24th is activation day. I am planning to set up a wireless router (using Mandriva2006). I will connect up normally with my computer upstairs (ie I will connect my Linux computer to the router using a cable). My wife's laptop (running Windows!!) is to be set up to use the wireless connection so that she can use it anywhere in the house. Are there any traps to look out for. Do I configure my computer as a lan connection? Any help gladly received.
All of them are set-up to use LAN connections, and of course the DHCP server points to the router IP.
One thing that can catch people out is the order you power the system up. For example my router manual says that you *must* turn on the cablemodem (or DSL modem) first, and *then* the router, or else you get no internet connectivity. If you're going to have a combined router/modem that won't be a problem, but it is one to watch out for.
