I'd strongly suggest 1 or 2Gb.  If you keep it to two equal sticks of 
RAM you can run the box in dual channel mode and get more bang for our 
buck.  For performance/reliability I'd recommend either OCX or Crucial.  
1.5Gb (3 sticks) can't be used in dual mode, for obvious reasons.  With 
Crucial once you have the CPU/Mobo sorted out you can go to their 
website and they will recommend what memory is best for that system.

Thought about using caddies?  That way you can quickly replace drives a) 
if they bust and/or b) if you need extra space.
