If no to both of those, it may be worth running an apt-get upgrade if you haven't recently - it could be that it's trying to install the latest version of jack which depends on slightly newer versions of packages than you have installed. I just checked my install and it'll install jack without removing any packages, so it's not a general Ubuntu issue.
