Assuming that remote machine is the one you are typing at :-), which will have krdc on it, then all you need is a VNC server on the host machine in order to run applications remotely. Most (not all) VNC servers create separate X sessions so you don't take over the running desktop on the host, you would normally use host:1 or similar to connect.
