If it segfaults on start-up, suggests something else is wrong with the environment it is in. If it segfaulted in use, that could be a known bug (see reportbug). In general I'd suggest not submitting bugs to upstream (i.e. sourceforge), but using "reportbug gaim" to submit it to the Debian BTS. Ideally once you've figured out the cause (and/or patch). Often Debian packages are patched for security or compatibility issues, and it'll save everyone a lot of time if you use reportbug or similar, as the maintainer will know the exact code base and environment you are using, where as upstream may not use Debian, you'll alos avoid duplicates, and may find a workaround. Although for most big projects, kernel, XF86/Xorg, when I report (or follow through on BTS reports) upstream and say it occurs in stock Debian packages, they are usually pleased, as it make it easier for them to reproduce, or at least establish the environment. But presumably that only happens when the project reaches the size that they have a few Debian users onboard. Segfault on start up will usually fall to strace, or debugging options if the application has any. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
