Hi all, again. I have finally got my Philips Web Cam working... bloody proprietary driver rubbish! Anyho, I have now managed to cause myself a little problem because of it! Don't ask me why, but the USB devices seem to be given priority over (or are detected before) the PCI devices. I say this because whilst my PCI Sound Blaster card used to be the 1st (and only) sound device, it is now not. /dev/dsp1 points to the microphone on my webcam, and /dev/dsp2 points to the soundcard, and /dev/dsp is symlinked to /dev/dsp1. Now, Macromedia's Flash player uses /dev/dsp for it's audio i/o. I have tried re-symlinking /dev/dsp -> /dev/dsp2, but it doesn't seem to work. I recall under Mandrake I had this issue before, so I delayed the detection of USB devices by increasing the number of /etc/rc.d/rcX.d/Sxxusb. However, Debian seems to have no such equivalent in /etc/rc2.d (still my default runlevel), so I can't do it like that. Alternatively, since I don't use the microphone on my webcam, I am quite happy to disable it all-together. I don't really want to remove snd-usb-audio.ko, so is there a way that I can prevent just this module from being loaded? Any thoughts? Cheers.
