In case you haven't heard of Google's Summer of Code, they're offering to sponsor 200 Open Source projects for $5000.00 each. Mentoring Organizations put up ideas and students offer to do them, the two get together and off they go. Assuming that the project goes well, the student picks up $4500.00, the mentor $500 and a summers worth of headway has been made on another great project. Your very own LispNYC is a mentoring organization, so you're free to apply to work on one of our projects here: http://www.lispnyc.org/summerofcode.html Additionally, the Tuesday June 14th meeting will be the first installment of the "LispNYC: Best Presentations" Anton van Straaten re-presents "Lisp and the Lambda Calculus": This talk takes a wild ride through the history of human thought about logic and computation, through the invention of lambda calculus and the invention of Lisp, the discovery of the funarg problem, its ultimate solution in the lambda calculus, and the adoption of that solution by Lisp and Scheme. Along the way, the lambda calculus will be explained and interactively demonstrated, in breathtaking clarity, using real code, showing the foundations of the basic logical constructs for which Lisp is famous. Anton was recently appointed to Scheme Editors Committee. - Heow http://www.LispNYC.org _____________________________________________________________________________ Hire expert Linux talent by posting jobs here :: http://jobs.nylug.org The nylug-talk mailing list is at nylug-talk@xxxxxxxxx The list archive is at http://nylug.org/pipermail/nylug-talk To subscribe or unsubscribe: http://nylug.org/mailman/listinfo/nylug-talk
