Eek shops usually charge the earth for cables, it is how they make their money. As regards power cables, anywhere that has passed beyond their first generation of PCs will have loads spare. We literally have a box overflowing with power cables at work, so if no one closer (Exeter) can make a better offer let me know off list what is outstanding, and I'll see if we can sort things out. We have a few stray disk drives as well, probably small and old IDE, and the odd weird SCSI disk. I would say the same about network cards, but having just built a couple of firewalls we are out of spare PCI 10/100 network cards. You really don't want our old ISA network cards - life is too short to be passing arguments to kernel modules for interrupts and IO ports. I think the RTL8139 (?) ethernet cards were 7 GBP new 5 years ago. We are still recycling them in firewalls and similar at 8 years old. Cheap, and indestructible. Irritatingly in about a month we'll probably be desparate to off load some old hardware. Including some stuff probably well suited to school servers. Indeed I've been trying to load various versions of Windows into one such today - damn Windows is fighting back. Debian SID went on first time and was used to test all the hardware is working fine. Irritating as we just want it rebuilt for a few weeks till it is obseleted by newer hardware, and it is definitely possible to install Windows NT 4 onto it - - it just isn't as easy as Debian. You'd never guess what OS it bought to run from ease of installation ;) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Encryption...is a powerful defensive weapon for free people.
