Hmm, not sure where to start on this one! I have things setup quite nicely on my desktop system so that from windows XP i can use NXCLient to connect to X on desktop1 and it works a treat. Desktop0 (ie, remote control) max's cpu to 100% and is unusable. No idea why but i'm not overly fussed. Now then, i'm trying to setup something similar on my server but as i say, not really too sure where to start. X Windows in installed since i installed it during setup, but i don't think it's ever been configured. I've also (just) installed the nvidia-kernel module since the server has integrated nvidia graphics. The hitch comes from the fact that i only normally use the machine via ssh. Hence, no keyoard, mouse or monitor is installed. It IS however sat next to me, not at a remote location. So, first things first, can i use this machine to serve up remote X sessions with xdm/kdm or gdm? I assume i can still. Will i HAVE to have a mouse and keyboard installed? Will i HAVE to connect up a monitor et al just to get it configured? (I find this a little hard to beleive). If i try putting things like "/dev/input/mouse0" into the config file then it just says it can't find them when it tries to start X. I guess i should say that this is a Gentoo machine. 2005-1 i _THINK_, although it may have been a 2004_3 install. Actually, there's a point, i don't even recall how to tell it to boot into X on gentoo. Is it /etc/inittab and set runlevel 5 like on most flavours? Any help muchly appreciated.
