One of my friends uses Suse 9.1 and wishes to have a broadband connection to the web. He has sought my advice, but as I have absolutely no experience of broadband I am seeking your help. Which service provider is best able to meet his needs please?
I personaly use demon and have had good performance with them, they seem to have at least heard of linux etc as there support pages even give info on setting up your mail in kmail. Eclipse are suppose to be good too but no personal experience, they are SW based as well. I have also seen broadband so bad that i would be ashamed if it was a dial up connection, this connection is to the SAME exchange as i use but a different ISP. I think if you go with the consensus then at least the ISP's end of the kit will not be a bottle neck and its down to BT's kit on your exchange which you can't do much about unless you can get cable. I think the key here is to NOT end up with a modem that is no good. I would select a DIY broadband package (no modem included), go to your favorate PC shop and buy a broadband router this will save *loads* of headaches it gives some firewall/NAT protection by its very nature and generaly *just works*. - Robin Cornelius --------------------------------------------------- robin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.cornelius.demon.co.uk http://sourceforge.net/projects/rt2400 GPG Key ID: 0x729A79A23B7EE764 http://www.biglumber.com/x/web?qs=0x729A79A23B7EE764
