Ergo, virus checking for Linux is redundant, unless you wish to check for virri passing through your mail server, and you are perfectly fine as you are.
Ok, you're right. Virus checking *for Linux* is redundant, but virus checking *on Linux* is not. I don't run mail servers, but I still run virus checkers. My reason? I am interested in them. I have a strange habit of keeping them and checking through the binary with "strings" to see what I can learn about it's actions without trying to find some decompiler or source code. And it's quite amusing to see just how many of these things are written so badly that you can almost see their intention right there in the binary code.
I do wish such a simple question as this would refrain from developing into an argument from time to time.
It's only a simple question if you're happy with simple answers. As it happens, the original question was "are there any decent virus scanners for Linux?"(which I think we can assume was referring to a virus scanner system that picks up Windows virii). The *simple* answer is yes. The question was not whether virus scanners for Linux were necessarily purposeful or necessary. Everyone has their own interpretation of the question.
