I plead ignorance of wlan-ng only used it once - but the standard location for wireless options is /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.opts
Looks to me like the driver loaded okay, but there was no networking settings for wlan0, so it didn't bring the interface up (error message reading --- "ifup: No configuration ...." is a bit of a give away).
So you probably need some wireless network settings (essid=ANY or such like), but definitely need some IP settings for the wlan0 interface (IP address, gateway info etc) however your distro does that (/etc/network/interfaces in Debian, /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts(?)...mumble.. for Redhat, or try a GUI tool).
The output of the wireless settings looks suspiciously like the output of "iwconfig wlan0", and I think you can use "iwconfig" as a read-only tool within wlan-ng (i.e. iwconfig wlan0") to check what the settings are (for us iwconfig die-hards).
