try using somting like ksysv (if you use KDE) or to do it by hand have a look in the /etc/init.d/rc3.d (if you don't start X on boot) or /etc/init.d/rc5.d (if you do start X on boot) the /etc/init.d/rcx.d folders contain simlinks that determine what services to start and stop during runlevel switching. prefix the simlink with an S to start or a K to kill the number is the order it gets executed (lowest=first). To shutdown services on system halt reboot place simlinks (with a K prefix) in rc1.d and rc6.d. Robin (@work)

I've installed Mandrake 10 so I can run Eclipse and Tomcat. I wanted these apps to run as services so created a couple of scripts to handle this. The scripts (tomcat and eclipseinfocenter) are in /etc/rc.d/init.d and have the same permissions as other scripts in the same location. From Mandrake's Control Centre I can start and stop these 2 services without a problem and when running, I can connect to the services they provide using my browser - so, essentially, they work fine. My problem is that I can't get them to start automatically when booting the server. In fact, I can't get Control Centre to retain the setting. ie. I open Control Centre, tick the "On Boot" checkbox and close Control Centre. Open it again and the tick has gone... Any ideas? tia Mart -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
