Hi Paul,

Thanks for the advice.  I edited the XFConfig86-4 as per the website,
but now X won't start with the error:

Unknown Protocol "auto-dev"

I'm thinking evdev isn't in the perishing kernel.  Would you agree
that's the problem?

BTW what Vaio do you have?  I'm wondering if mine is older as, when I
tried tpconfig it said "No Synaptic or ALPS devices found" and packed up
in a sulk.
