I was a technical analyst with CCC some years back during the days of proper computing (mainframes) before the (mis )perception grew amongst the 'well informed' within the departments we served that microsoft products were the way forward. I can tell you that it is a pure b..... miracle that, given the petty inter departmental empire building and wrangling that occurred, they could decide anything that didn't involve kick backs or Jehovas Witnesses. I always said that if I ever got made redundant, I would offer the CCC my time with no salary but to work purely for a cut of the savings I could make if a corporate policy were adopted. Unfortunately, the stress of watching the good work we did within our team being undermined got to me first (as did it all our team). Just my opinions of course David ----- Original Message ----- From: Aaron Trevena <dclug@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <list@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, June 08, 2004 6:36 PM Subject: [LUG] Cornwall Health Informatic Service moves to Novell/Linux

NB - registration required. Cornwall Health Informatic Service moves to Novell/Linux, they dumped Active Directory and Exchange for Groupwise and NDS, which is fairly wise given that it provides services to netware, unix and other platforms. A lot of Cornwall NHS also uses GroupWise from what I remember when my mother was a middle manager for one the primary care trusts. At last Cornwall Council and LHA catching on that their MS habits aren't doing them any good - wonder how much longer before the CCC website is done by professionals rather than the kind of people who think requiring Internet Explorer (with vbscript enabled) for form validation is
acceptable.
