A Linux user is a Linux user, whether thick or thin. This is a Linux User Group:) Should a large group of newbies join then maybe we could have a seperate list and a FAQ.
I've occasionally pondered on the idea of having more than one list on days when the list traffic has been particularly high, although how to split it has never been terribly obvious. That said, it's usually that combined with the result of having to read a couple of days messages at once! I lament not having the time to be as active on the list as I once was, but paying the mortgage is important too. :) We do of course already operate more than one list, although the others (solaris and wireless-exeter) are rarley posted to. To be honest, (imho obviously) you can't really expect new list members to be sufficiently up on netiquette to know how best to approach asking a question, but the community usually seems to help them in this direction. For completeness, I'll post the url of the ever handy RFC 1855: Netiquette Guidelines - http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc1855.txt. If you've not heard of this before it's worth a quick read, particularly (for the purposes of this list) the section on one-to-many communication. It's full of useful things, like this: - Read all of a discussion in progress (we call this a thread) before posting replies. Avoid posting "Me Too" messages, where content is limited to agreement with previous posts. Content of a follow-up post should exceed quoted content.
