[LUG] Headless Linux box

If I boot a Linux box without monitor, keyboard and mouse plugged in,
does the OS automatically put all output to the serial port a la
Solaris?

I've got a box in my garage roof which hasn't come back up since a <1
min power cut the other day - rather than switching it off and bringing
it into the house to find out what's going on, I'd quite like to find
out why it's not come back up; and it'd be easier to take a laptop into
the roof with a serial cable than a monitor ;)
