I don't see why you need to buy specific thin client hardware. Getting generic hardware, esp. considering all the old bits around should be easier and cheaper.
I did suggest the above when we started, in fact the "proof of concept" was run on very old kit. Howard wanted new kit ..... I think he thought he might want to use them as thick clients as well.... His budget not mine ;-) As a testiment to the K12LTSP setup, I think hes happy with them as thin clients. The size (or lack there of) may have also been a factor as they where going to be based in the library and 6th form common room areas with limited space. Mini-itx's are fanless (and psu's are laptop transformers) which makes them ultra quite (again good for library based machines). but @ £125 a throw they where still very competitive boxes for what they offered.
