Hi James, The question is how much have you got to spend? You can install Linux on many different laptops although some are a lot more reliable (hardware) and more robust then others, although at the same time everyone's mileage varies. The best bet is to have a look at what you like and then google and see what the experience is of others using that model with Linux. Which Dist would you like to use? I currently have a Compaq armada e500 which happily runs a Debian mix of stable/testing. All the PCMCIA/Touchpad/Ethernet etc work with no problems. I am having a bit of jip with sound, but to be honest I don't really need it anyway. I also have a partition that contains Win2k so that I can work with work an NT environment as well. When you say boot off a network - do you mean run a dhcp client, if so yes. If you mean have the laptop join a NT domain, yes you can using SAMBA. Hope that helps :¬) Luke ----- Original Message ----- From: "James Wonnacott" <jwon@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <list@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, November 28, 2003 8:02 AM Subject: [LUG] Laptop recommendations please > Can anyone recommend a good laptop? > I want to be able to dual boot into Linux and XP > (sorry but its part of my job :-( ) > and if possible boot off a network. > Any suggestions please. > > James > > > -- > The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG > Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the > message body to unsubscribe. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
