Why consider conspiracy when incompetence is more likely? Bad design of the CD hardware = skimping on a part of the chipset and adding the functionality to the Windows/Mac driver. (Gee, now where have I heard that story before!) Cost-cutting+incompetence = PITA. Probably something really stupid like they put the code to reset the laser track in software without telling anyone. Hey presto, the head won't return to the rest, the drive appears busy and won't open. Can LG be that stupid?
