My ACER has been fine, apart from the annoying problem with the XFree86 ATI driver which means I can't have accelerated graphics without the odd drawing gitch (bug with Xfree86 - ATI MACH64 issue, probably moved on to newer drivers by now), it is rock solid. I bought it because it was the cheapest in the shop, least bundled software etc. Only downside(?) ACER are so tied up in Microsoft's pockets it can't run NT4 by a kind of agreement between the companies. So maybe ACER is a better choice than Advent, but the vendor was making no effort to help Linux users, which I think is very disappointing. According to the manual it was "designed for Windows 98", but judging by the reliability of Windows 98 on the hardware, their designer must have had a sense of humour. Some of the Windows problems are down to the bundled antivirus product, named after a well known antibiotic. But then what do you expect if you use antibiotics to fight viral infections. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE/aaMqGFXfHI9FVgYRAn8OAKDHLWRjYUU/x3DQF0omnj3A8jIwkACdG43A ORNE42RDQzVoO9XQ08uQvLg= =SYMO -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
