People that borrow a book and like it will probably go on to buy it so
they have it at hand, 4" thick C/C++ books aren't much good on a month
lend other then to get a feel of the writting style, but if someone
finds it's not their cup of tea they haven't lost anything.

| Downside would be aggro with people not returning books in time (or
even disappearing with them)  As a booklender I know to my cost getting
books back is not always as easy as it should be.

I think a five pound deposit  would put most  shady characters off of
borrowing books in the first place and encourage those that have done to
bring them back timely and in good condition :)

These are just my personal thoughts though.
