My suse system finds it: elvira:/lib # ldconfig -p | grep libc.so.6 libc.so.6 (libc6, OS ABI: Linux 2.2.5) => /lib/libc.so.6 but /etc/ld.so.conf does not contain a reference to /lib. man ldconfig tells me that /usr/lib and /lib are trusted directories which are searched anyway. If you haven't already, try running ldconfig with no options and see if turns up! Otherwise it's got me beat. I guess I shall have to wait to hear from the experts.
