Are you using 8.2 personal edition? The Professional edition has all these as standard. > > Essentially you will need to decide on which IP address range you want > to use. 192.164.0.0 -> 192.168.0.255 would be logical (you dont have > more than 255 machines do you ??) > > Once you have decided that you need to allocate the IP addresses to > your machines, ensuring that none collide. > > 192.168.0.1 - Internet machine > (I would suggest you use a dedicated smoothwall for this) > 192.168.0.2 - PC1 > 192.168.0.3 - PC2 > 192.168.0.. - PC... > > The "subnet" you wil need to set in this instance will be 255.255.255.0 > > Configure a machine name (hostname) for each machine If you edit /etc/hosts on each machine to include the IP addresses and names of each machine on the network you will then be able to contact each machine by name rather than IP address - makes life easier. If you think that your hub might be dodgy it might be useful to invest in a (i'm sure there is a proper name for this but can't remember) network lead with the connections reversed at one end. This can used to directly connect two computers with no intervening hardware. Good for testing.
