There are still a few people who naively think that the big software companies have the full source code used in all the products they sell, and groups of experts in each sitting around with nothing to do but fix the bugs they find, most people who work, or have worked, in the industry are a tad more realistic. > Read a few Microsoft EULA and see how > much support they offer you... This is true of the GPL as well, all shrink wrap, and mass distribution software will disclaim all liability possible under the law. It is the only viable model. Heck the terms and conditions for my ISP disclaim all liability for everything, about the only obligation in the T&C is that I pay them, so the software isn't so different from other mass consumer goods. There is that little question on professional indemnity applications about "do you provide software", so presumably this has some effect on the premiums, I'm guessing it doesn't put them down ;-) -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE+tpZJGFXfHI9FVgYRAopWAKC8SEux6PgbxMdg01BKO+bti1my+QCgnyIK qC80m5r7TC6w8OeBrxUlEe4= =2uZF -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
