The link at the end suggests depositing material with a solicitor, or other trustworthy body. Essentially all you are looking for is establishing some record, the courts will trust, that you were the original author. Alas it is hard to prove prior ownership of electronic data, unless it is in a sealed postmarked envelope or similar. > Once I have GPLed my work I intend asking the FSF to post a link to my > website. Would this help protect the copyright? No. To protect your copyright you need to prove authorship and pursue infringers. The FSF may well help you pursue people infringing your copyright, if that copyrighted work is distributed under the GPL, but there is no guarantee, and I doubt a URL will help. You can also effectively "gift" your copyright to the FSF (or anyone), and they may then enforce it for you (to an extent), however this may prevent, or complicate, you releasing the work under a different licence in future. The FSF have a licencing question email address, which is on their website, probably the best people to ask if you need specific advice. http://www.patent.gov.uk/copy/indetail/copyclaim.htm -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQE+ivSaGFXfHI9FVgYRAr6AAJ9POhJMlfe/PxGjpQLAF9vZBVdIygCg1tS5 3e4oUEonEPV1HkeYzckgKX0= =xlU8 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
