I forgot that we were running a 2.4.20-2.25 kernel from rawhide. It allegedly fixed a GRE problem, and since these are vpn servers it seemed like it would be a good idea to use it :-) It didn't fix the GRE as far as I know. I went back to using a 2.4.18-19.8.0 kernel and it all worked fine. The latest 2.4.0-24.8 (?) kernel is also okay. I'll stick with the 2.4.18 kernels for the moment I think since we don't need to use 2.4.20. (Hmm, there might have been some nic driver fixes too - we have broadcom tigon 3 gigabit cards, so I may need to test the newer 2.4.20-2.38 kernel too. Sigh.)
