Anybody out there using latest version of Debian linux?
I tried out debian V2.2 when i first dabbled with Linux but found it a bit
difficult to get into. I`m using RedHat at the moment which is fine..
How does the latest version compare to v2.2?
Does it still use dselect? or is there a graphical interface (KDE/GNOME now?
Is `apt-get` really better than RPM`s? Can you just choose which package you
want then it downloads it, sorts out the dependancies and installs stuff for
you?
What other distubutions use `apt-get`? SUSE?

Hello there..
I currently use Debian.. after using RedHat since V5 to v 7.1, I thought
that RPM's were just a little too dumb for me.. You download X RPM
file.. which after a 15 minute wait needs packages Y + Z, so another few
searches and downloads later.. they both depend on an older version of
B.. which you have B v2.5 and it (Y + Z) need B V2... ARRRGH...
apt is a very smart package management system.. I do
$ apt-get install apache
It says.. ok, But i also need packages x, y and z.. and offers to
download the whole lot for you.. how nice is that ? no more searching
the internet to get a specific package.. just say go get it..
dselect is still present in debian and the installer is still text mode,
I have personally never installed Deb v2.x.
IMHO apt is the best package management system i have come across, and
as far as I know the only distro to use apt is debian.
The hardest part of debian i have found is the install program, but if
you leave yourself a few hours to sit down and go through it logically
the first (few) times (i installed debian on 4 boxes now) you will pick
it up quite easily..
