I have two options as I see it..... 1. Move the 20gig HD to the new computer and run it as a slave to the new drive.
Nah, if it is the master on the first IDE, move the old hard drive to master on the IDE, and make the new drive a slave (hopefully XP didn't come preinstalled, but with a sensible CD of the original if you really want it ;-). Otherwise all the disk paths change, in principal this only affect the mount table /etc/fstab, and lilo /etc/lilo.conf or other bootloader, but not changing the partition names is simpler, for the sake of switching two jumpers. Then partition the new disk up as required, and install XP there (or does XP mop if it isn't first OS? - some MS OSes are picky about where they are installed).
2. Repartition the 40gig HD and do a clean install, but then i`ll have to set everything up again.
Well it would be clean.
I would really like to do option 1, but how do a go about changing the config. i.e for the new hardware....I really haven`t got a clue how to do it.
Backup first, and make a Redhat boot disk if you don't have one, then at least recovery is possible. -- The Mailing List for the Devon & Cornwall LUG Mail majordomo@xxxxxxxxxxxx with "unsubscribe list" in the message body to unsubscribe.
